Job overview
An exciting new initiative has been developed in Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust to develop a Child Death Review process for all child deaths in Hertfordshire.
Currently there is an established JAR process for Unexpected and Expected Child Deaths and the objective is further develop our holistic reviews of all the deaths of 0 - 18 year old children and young people.
The Post Holder, in collaboration with the Safeguarding Children Nurse Manager for Child Deaths in Hertfordshire, will be responsible for advising on the implementation, coordination and management of the response to all child deaths of children who live in Hertfordshire; to have a coordinated approach for children who die in Hertfordshire who live in another County.
Main duties of the job
To work as a skilled health practitioner within a specialist team for the Joint Agency Response (JAR) for child deaths in Hertfordshire. To support that the Child Death procedures which cover expected and unexpected deaths of children and young people aged 0 – 18 years are in place across Hertfordshire. This process will be known as the Joint Agency Response (JAR) to child deaths in Hertfordshire. In addition, the post holder will support the coordination and management to the electronic Child Death Overview Panel (eCDOP) responsibilities.
The Post Holder, in collaboration with the Named Nurse for Child Deaths in Hertfordshire, will be responsible for advising on the implementation, coordination and management of the response to all child deaths of children who live in Hertfordshire; to have a coordinated approach for children who die in Hertfordshire who live in another County.
The Post holder will act in collaboration with the JAR to Child Deaths in Hertfordshire partner team members to fulfil this role across the Integrated Care Boards (ICB’s) of Hertfordshire, leading and supporting the implementation, co-ordination and management of all child deaths in Hertfordshire in accordance with Government legislation and Local Safeguarding Children’s Partnership Policies.

Essential criteria
- Hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010)
Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- Registered health care professional that is regulated by a professional body (such as NMC, HCPC, GMC)
- Evidence of self-managed continued professional development
- Evidence of post registration training such as Masters level qualifications relevant to safeguarding or equivalent experience and the willingness to complete further training to support this role
- Teaching or mentorship qualification
- Supervisory qualification or equivalent/ willingness to complete
Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Previous experience working with families, children and young people
- Clinical experience of safeguarding children.
- Experience of delivering Joint Agency Response in a professional capacity
- Effective contribution to local multi-agency groups, systems and networks.
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Ability to respond positively to change
- Excellent communication and listening skills with some understanding of basic counselling skills
- The ability to transfer the principles of clinical effectiveness into clinical practice
- Ability to analyse issues and think critically
