Job overview
We are recruiting for a Pharmacist Specialist - Planned Care who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and adaptable pharmacist with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to support the pharmacy department.
The successful candidate will utilise their clinical knowledge to deliver a high quality, safe and effective person-centred clinical pharmacy service to patients on specialist surgical wards within the Trust, working closely with the multidisciplinary team.
This post comes with development opportunities that include undertaking the non-medical prescribing qualification and NHS leadership training.
Whilst this role is currently advertised as a part time (24 hours per week) 12 month fixed-term post, there will be real opportunities to make this a substantive post for the right candidate. A suitable working pattern over 3-4 days can be negotiated.

Main duties of the job
To act as the lead pharmacist for a designated surgical speciality ensuring all aspects of the service are developed and supported.
To provide a specialist clinical pharmacy service, critical care, theatres, trauma and orthopaedics, general surgery, plastics, ophthalmology, urology and speciality surgery covering all aspects of medicines management.
To support the Pharmacist Team Lead - Planned Care, in directorate reporting, undertaking audits as required and assisting with the provision of financial and other information.
To provide clinical training and assessment of junior clinical pharmacists and foundation trainee pharmacists whilst on rotation through surgery.
To provide education and training for doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
To undertake risk management and ensures compliance with medicines legislation.
To carry out general dispensing and associated clinical and pharmaceutical duties and to assist with the provision of the pharmaceutical service to the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.
To provide teaching and day to day supervision of junior clinical pharmacists, technicians and pharmacy support workers.

Qualifications / Training
Essential criteria
- Masters Degree MPharm
- Registered with the GPhC as a pharmacist
- Mandatory CPD to maintain fitness to practice
- Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent (or working towards)
Desirable criteria
- Qualified and registered as a non-medical prescriber (or working towards completion of NMP qualification)
- Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant post registration experience in hospital pharmacy
- Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Supervision of staff
- Proven experience of audit
Desirable criteria
- Experience in planned care (surgery)
- Training of foundation year pharmacists and junior staff
- Project management and report writing
- Experience in writing policies/guidelines/PGDs
- Tutoring of post graduate trainee pharmacists or foundation year pharmacists
