Job overview
We are in an exciting position to be able to advertise for a community mental health nurse. We are seeking a mental health nurses who is looking to be at the forefront of future healthcare and integrated working for the older adult population, working within the Specialist Mental Health Services for Older People. As a multi-disciplinary team we provide holistic assessment and treatment pathways for older adults, and people with mental health and frailty needs. Our service provides seamless pathways between primary care and secondary care services for people with functional mental illness, and also dementia care.
As a team, we can offer multi-disciplinary support from Clinical Psychologists, Consultant Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, as well as Mental Health Nurses. We also provide regular CPD sessions, reflective practice, staff support sessions, individual and group supervisions, and academic training, as well as access to external training resources.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a dynamic nurse who is passionate about the care of our older adult service users. We consider transferable skills from other areas of mental health services as valuable and a positive contribution to well-rounded team.
We cover the South West locality of Hertfordshire, with the base in Watford .

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder is required to take responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards of care and management of a defined caseload, including liaison with other agencies and, where appropriate, the supervision, development and teaching of staff and/or students. The post holder will act as care coordinator to a case load of service users, ensuring the care plan is met at all times. To work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.
As a staff member you are representatives of Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT) and play a vital role in fostering positive relationships and communication between the Mental Health Trust and not only the service users and their carers and relatives, but also other agencies, charities and providers.

Person specification
KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Degree, diploma or equivalent in Nursing (Mental Health Nursing).
- Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council
- Mentorship Preparation Course.
- Few years post registration experience, with post registration experience in Adult Mental Health Care.
- Willingness to train in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy
Desirable criteria
- Pre or Post registration training/ short courses in mental health
- Community and InPatient nursing experience.
- AMHP qualification.
- Successful completion of Intensive Training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy
AREAS OF EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of legislation related to mental health and social care (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Care Act, Care Programme Approach etc)
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Ability to manage distressing and challenging situations.
Desirable criteria
- Supervision skills
- Leadership skills
