Job overview

We are pleased to confirm we have a vacancy for a band 7 Occupational Therapist to work within the Specialist Mental Health Team for Older People in Watford.

This position is part time with no shift working however hybrid working is available.

You will:

  • Work as part of the OT team
  • Be part of MDTs that value and respect OT
  • Involvement in CPD and reflective practice.
  • All our OTs are supervised by experienced Specialist/Head/Lead Occupational Therapists
  • Receive support and be part of an OT network across all the services. If you are new to the area or considering career progression – we can support you.

 

Main duties of the job

As a Band 7 Occupational Therapist you would be expected to:

  • Co-ordinate and oversee the OT service across the South West quadrant.
  • Carry a caseload as well as having managerial responsibilities which would include, supervision, service development, recruitment and retention, training etc.
  • Be part of a supportive team of Head and Lead OTs.
  • Car driver essential (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010 which prevents you from driving)

Training will be offered with regards to developing leadership skills, Model of Human Occupation as well as a variety of in-service training opportunities.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of clients with complex OT needs.
  • Provide leadership for junior staff, through supervision and appraisal
  • Lead in the planning, development and evaluation of OT services, holding responsibility for defined projects where appropriate
  • Regularly support staff to supervise OT students on practice placement, following attendance at an approved Fieldwork Educators course.
  • Apply in depth knowledge of the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) and other standardised assessment approaches relevant to the clinical setting.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc/MSc/PG Dip Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Evidence of clinical post registration training
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office and associated packages.
  • Practice Placement qualification/APPLE accreditation
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of RCOT, including specialist section
  • First line management training
  • Solution Focussed Brief Therapy training
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy training
  • AMPS/ESI/SI training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post registration experience in relevant clinical setting/s at a B6 leve
  • Applied experience of providing both individual and group work interventions.
  • Highly Specialist knowledge and experience of using and applying the Model of Human Occupation assessment tools, or others appropriate to area.
  • Experience of other specialist Occupational Therapy assessment tools, e.g. AMPS, Pool Activity Levels
  • Documented evidence of continuing professional development
  • Experience in providing advice, support and clinical supervision to junior staff and/or students
  • Applied knowledge of Recovery principles and how these relate to OT
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with people with mental health problems and/or learning disability in a variety of health and social care settings
  • Involvement in recruiting staff
  • Experience in research or audit
  • Previous experience of having worked at Band 7 level
