The Urology Department has a vacancy for a Medical Secretary, full time, to work as part of the Urology Team at Watford General Hospital.

Experienced and committed, you will provide an efficient and comprehensive secretarial service to the Consultants and Multi-Disciplinary Team.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will need to have a good general level of education with formal qualifications and experience of working as a Medical Secretary.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will need to provide a comprehensive and efficient secretarial and administrative service to one or more of the Urology Consultants.  In so doing, you will work closely with the other Urology Consultants and their secretaries, along with other members of the Urology team.  This role will involve frequent movement between several offices on site at Watford General Hospital as you liaise with the consultant on call and your own office area.

This job will be primarily based at Watford General hospital, but you may be required to travel to one of the three sites on a manager’s request.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good basic education to GCSE level or AMSPAR/RSA III typing
  • Extensive experience as a Medical Secretary

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Medical Terminology
  • Knowledge of hospital computer systems (PAS)
  • Knowledge of 18-week pathway process
  • Knowledge of PTLs
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of specialty

Experience

Desirable criteria
  • Previous medical secretarial experience
  • Working in a changing environment
