Job overview

Specialist Dermatology Doctor (SAS level) Community Dermatology delivering triage, assessment, diagnosis and management of a wide range of dermatology conditions within community Health Centre's across East and North Hertfordshire

Main duties of the job

The post involves undertaking triage, diagnosis, treatment and management of patients with a wide range of dermatological conditions, training doctors to GPwER level, and developing clinical leadership skills with a view to assuming the role of clinical lead a year into the post.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To perform clinical triage for dermatology referrals from primary care

To review investigations, including histology & pathology results and create appropriate action plans

To provide thorough assessments, diagnoses, treatments, and advice for both acute and chronic dermatological conditions including onward referral to secondary care where appropriate, including 2ww 

To perform minor surgeries, including excision of low-risk basal cell carcinoma, subject to a negotiated job plan, which may or may not include this element of the role

To assume the role of Clinical Lead following a period of induction over the first year by working alongside the current clinical lead to providing a robust supervisory and governance framework

To train doctors to enable them to become accredited GPwERs in Dermatology

To provide a senior point of reference within the Service for second opinion

To attend the secondary care MDT on behalf of Skin Health to review MDT alerts

·         To take part in the recruitment of doctors to the Skin Health Service

To provide clinical expertise for case reviews, helping develop an action plan in regard to any lessons learnt and provide the necessary assurance in regard to Patient Safety

 

Person specification

Essential

Essential criteria
  • Extensive NHS Dermatology experience
  • Very experienced in dermoscopy
  • Teaching experience
  • Experience in interpreting histopathology results
  • Experience of Leadership
  • GMC registration, MRCP
  • Hold full valid driving license and access to a vehicle
Desirable criteria
  • GMC Specialist Register for Dermatology
