Job overview

The Digital Transformation Project Manager will lead and deliver strategic transformation initiatives that enhance the quality, accessibility, and efficiency of HUC services.

 Working across clinical, operational, and technical teams, the role is responsible for managing complex digital projects that support service innovation, improve patient experience, strengthen system integration, and ensure compliance with NHS standards and governance requirements.

The postholder will drive the successful implementation of digital solutions and process improvements that enable responsive, safe, and effective urgent care services, while supporting organisational objectives, operational resilience, and continuous improvement across the patient journey.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead the planning, delivery, and evaluation of digital transformation projects across the organisation, ensuring delivery within agreed timescales, budgets, and quality standards
  • Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, applying recognised project management methodologies to ensure effective governance, risk management, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Produce and maintain comprehensive project documentation including business cases, project plans, risk registers, reporting dashboards, and post-implementation reviews. 
  • Support operational teams through change management activities, including communication planning, training coordination, and adoption of new digital processes. 
  • Maintain awareness of emerging NHS digital priorities, national policy developments, and best practice within urgent and integrated care transformation.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Education to Degree level or equivalent professional qualification or experience
  • Recognised Project Management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2)
Desirable criteria
  • Qualification in change management

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience working in a Healthcare organisation
  • Experience managing complex digital transformation within a Healthcare environment
  • Experience delivering projects across multiple stakeholders and operational teams
  • Experience managing project lifecycles from initiation through to implementation and evaluation
  • Experience of risk and issue management within complex programmes
  • Experience of stakeholder engagement at operational and senior management level
  • Knowledge of digital transformation principles and change management approaches
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working in an NHS 111/ GP out of hours provider
  • Experience implementing clinical systems, telephony platforms, workforce systems or digital patient pathways

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Project management skills – ability to plan, manage and monitor according to the project framework and within agreed budget
  • Skilled in facilitating meetings, workshops and collaborative working sessions
  • Proficient in relevant software (i.e. MS Project, Excel, MS Visio, PowerPoint, PM3
  • Highly developed communication skills for delivering key messages to a range of stakeholders both internal and external to the organisation
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving capability
  • Ability to analyse and interpret information, pre-empt and evaluate issues, and recommend an appropriate course of action to address the issues.
  • Demonstrated capabilities to work autonomously, where expected results are defined, managing own workload without supervision and make informed decisions in the absence of required information, working to tight and often changing timescales.
  • Excellent verbal, including strong presentation skills, written and interpersonal skills.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of process mapping and workflow design techniques
