Full or Part Time Assistant Therapy Practitioner within  Intensive Community Support Team (ICST) in Community Eating Disorder Services.  

Are you interested in being part of a NHS East of England Provider Collaborative Project service to provide adults with eating disorders treatment at home?  Do you have a passion for supporting recovery through occupational therapy?  If so we want to hear from you!

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an  enthusiastic Assistant Therapy Practitioner to work with adults with eating disorders and their carers both in their homes and within their communities.  The ICST aims to support local treatment where appropriate to prevent hospital admissions, prepare people for admission to a Specialist Eating Disorder Unit or to facilitate an earlier discharge.  

You will be part of the ICST who are a small caring multi-disciplinary team.  The ICST works collaboratively with the Hertfordshire Community Eating Disorder Service and a range of service providers including Day Treatment Providers and Specialist Eating Disorder Units.

We are a caring team; working closely to ensure we support people using our service, their family/loved ones, our colleagues and each other.  We are excited about the progression of the service and possibility of positively impacting peoples recovery journey.

We are looking for staff who hold our team and Trust values.  Ideally you will have experience of working with people with  mental health issues and/or eating disorders.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team in the Intensive Community Treatment Service (ICST) as part of Hertfordshire’s Community Eating Disorder Service to:

 

  1. Prevent admission to a Specialist Eating Disorder Unit, or
  2. Prepare service users and their carers for admission to a Specialist Eating Disorder Unit, or
  3. Facilitate an earlier discharge from a Specialist Eating Disorder Unit

 

Jointly providing short term intensive input to those at risk of hospital admission for a period of 12 weeks alongside the ICST staff.

 

To contribute to delivery of the ICST service specification provided by the NHS East of England Provider Collaborative and contribute to service evaluation through work with service users, carers and other service providers.

Contribute to Occupational Therapy assessment and interventions with those using the ICST under guidance of the Lead Occupational Therapist.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Occupational Therapy role within a mental health setting
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office and associated packages
Desirable criteria
  • Additional relevant trainingNVQ level 3 or a MH Certificate of equivalent qualification.
  • Additional training in Eating Disorders

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with people with mental health problems
  • Experience of working autonomously and using own initiative
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a OT related setting
  • Experience of service user and carer involvement in the development of services
  • Knowledge of recovery principles
  • Knowledge and experience of using the Model of Human Occupation Assessment tools
