Anaesthetic Fellowship Trust Doctor (ST3)

ST3+ Fellowship Trust Doctor

Job overview

We offer 12‑month ST3+ Anaesthesia Fellowships at William Harvey Hospital, designed to support development of RCoA Stage 2 (ST4‑equivalent) capabilities and strengthen applications for Higher Training or CESR. Fellows complete full clinical and on‑call duties while developing a focused subspecialty interest.

Subspecialty options include: Regional Anaesthesia, Perioperative Medicine & POPS, Major Trauma, Ophthalmic Anaesthesia, Quality Improvement & Medical Leadership, Obstetric Anaesthesia, Acute Inpatient Pain, and Complex Airway Anaesthesia.

All fellowships provide evidence mapped to Stage 2 outcomes, a named Educational Supervisor, structured supervision, dedicated SPA time, and opportunities for QIP, audit, teaching, and research. Fellows gain experience in leadership, MDT working, and independent decision‑making. These development‑focused posts help build a competitive portfolio and include tailored interview preparation to support progression to the next stage of anaesthetic training.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will undertake ST3+ level anaesthetic duties, including elective and emergency work, with participation in a 1:8 on‑call rota covering obstetrics, theatres, ED, PCI, trauma, and transfers. The role is 48 hours per week.

Alongside clinical work, the fellow completes a subspecialty fellowship in one chosen area. Duties include providing safe perioperative care, participating in subspecialty activity and MDTs, completing Stage 2 workplace‑based assessments, contributing to QIP/audit/research, supporting teaching, and engaging in governance and service development.

Fellows are supervised by a named Educational Supervisor and subspecialty leads, with all experience mapped to RCoA Stage 2 outcomes. SPA time is provided for project work. These posts suit ST3+ doctors seeking development and portfolio strengthening for Higher Training or CESR.
