Job overview
currently have a position for ST3+ Anaesthesia Fellowships based at the William Harvey Hospital, designed to support development of RCoA Stage 2 (ST4-equivalent) capabilities and strengthen applications for Higher Training pathways.
These posts are development focused, not solely service roles, providing structured opportunities to build a strong portfolio alongside ongoing clinical anaesthetic practice and on-call commitments.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will undertake clinical anaesthetic duties at ST3+ level, including elective and emergency work and participation in the on-call rota (obstetrics, theatres, ED, PCI, trauma, and transfers). The role is 48 hours per week. The on-call commitment is currently arranged as a 1:8 full rota.
In addition, the fellow will undertake a subspecialty fellowship, gaining focused experience in their chosen area.
Responsibilities include:
• Delivery of safe anaesthesia and perioperative care appropriate to Stage 2 level
• Participation in subspecialty clinical activity, clinics, and MDT working
• Completion of workplace-based assessments mapped to RCoA Stage 2 outcomes
• Involvement in quality improvement, audit, and/or research projects
• Contribution to teaching and training of junior staff and multidisciplinary teams
• Engagement with clinical governance and service development activities
The post holder will work under the supervision of a named Educational Supervisor and subspecialty consultant leads. The fellowships are designed to support development of RCoA Stage 2 (ST4-equivalent) capabilities and strengthen applications for Higher Training pathways. Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration
- NHS experience ST3+
- Completion of Initial Assessment of competence (IAC) and Initial Assessment of Competence for Obstetric Anaesthesia (IACOA)
- Meets requirements of session supervisor as per RCOA
- Experience of Mentoring junior trainees
- Formal teaching experience
Desirable criteria
- Formal teaching qualification
- Has set up and led a teaching programme
Skills and Experience
Essential criteria
- NHS experience ST4 - ST7
- IACOA
- Broad range of specialities / QIPS / teaching / research / interview and exam practice etc.
- On-call: obstetrics, theatres, PCI, ED, Trauma, inter-hospital transfer
- ALS or equivalent
- Inter-hospital transfer training

- Paediatric anaesthesia
