Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

Full GMC Registration
Completion of Foundation Training or equivalent.
Completion of basic training in anaesthesia, medicine, EM or ICM.

Desirable criteria

MRCP, MRCEM, Primary FRCA or another post-graduate qualification.

Skills and Experience

Essential criteria

Ability to prioritise clinical workload.
Safe and effective communication.
At least 6 months experience working on an ICU.

Desirable criteria

Simulation teaching or instructor for advanced life support course.
Anaesthesia/Airway skills

Clinical Governance

Essential criteria

Evidence of continuing professional development.

Desirable criteria

Completion of audit cycle or QI.
Evidence of engagement in patient safety projects.

As a Senior Assessor, you have the opportunity to focus on delivering direct care. Furthermore, if you have the relevant experience and skills, you can take on an additional responsibility. We limit this to one responsibility to allow for focused time on that topic, rather than having your time stretched too thinly. When taking on an additional responsibility, your case volume is reduced, making time available for this focused time.

For Senior Assessors, additional responsibility options include supporting more complex cases, ensuring quality assurance, providing training, facilitating family engagement, and contributing to pathway development.
