We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised Practice Educator to join our professional team in East Kent.

Main duties of the job

The children’s short breaks service collaborates with KCC children’s residential short breaks units to ensure that children with complex health needs can safely access the units for their short break stay. 
Practice educators work in a small a team which strengthens the overall capacity of the service, ensuring training and competency assessments of KCC unit staff are prioritised and effectively delivered across each unit.

 This is achieved through training and assessing the competencies of KCC staff, who provide hands-on care to meet the health needs of children and young people. 

Practice Educators’ triage and assess to identify any health tasks that can be delegated to KCC unit staff, who are then trained, supervised, and competency-assessed to deliver the health tasks This supervision and observation continues throughout the year, ensuring KCC staff feel supported and remain competent. Additionally, staff receive updated training and their competency is reassessed annually or sooner if required.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC registered paediatric nurse with a minimum of 3 years of acute experience
  • Driving licence and access to own vehicle
  • Nursing degree, diploma and evidence of relevant post graduate development at Level 6
Desirable criteria
  • Management or supervisory qualification or experience of study
  • Evidence of specialist qualifications relevant to area of practice (mentorship)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in complex needs or community setting
  • Experience of teaching clinical skills and presenting information to large groups
  • Supporting others (mentor / educator / supervisor) experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of leading and managing teams
  • Experience with the use of Microsoft Office and a variety of IT packages (Powerpoint, Excel and RIO)

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of National Service Frameworks and NICE guidance to relevant to care setting and its application across health care services
  • Evidence of continued relevant professional development and implementation in practice within the last 12 months

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of training needs in relation to post
  • Ability to triage and complete health needs assessments
  • Ability to manage time effectively, priorities and work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of people at all organisational levels across different sectors including educational settings
  • Ability to communicate and adapt practice to work with children and young people with complex needs
