We are looking for an experienced Catering Manager to join our Ashford-based Hospital to oversee the team responsible for the provision of high-quality catering services for our patients and within our retail outlets.



The Catering Manager will co-ordinate a large catering team to maintain a clean, safe working environment that adheres to health and safety working practises and food hygiene regulations, and facilitate the delivery of an efficient catering service to the workforce, patients, and visitors to the hospital site.

 

 

They will exercise a high degree of autonomy, making strategic decisions in line with service requirements and managing the catering areas and the staff associated with them. They will demonstrate excellent communication skills, providing advice and direction to the department.



Responsibilities will include:

 

  • Ensuring consistently high standards are met by the teams across the site. Provide feedback as required to services in relation to their performance, and monitor KPI’s within the department to facilitate continuous improvement.

  • Responsible for the sales / gross profit development and the management of budget and control of stock, ensuring goods are stored correctly and stock is used on a rotational basis.

  • Responsible for supervision, allocation, direction and monitoring of catering staff thus ensuring that all staff receive development plans and sufficient training including fire and health and safety training on a regular basis.

  • Compile and maintain work schedules and departmental rotas according to business levels.

  • Ensure strict hygiene standards are maintained in line with Food Hygiene Regulations

  • Support the Head of Facilities with the setting and management of the annual budget. Be responsible for the expenditure of the service, addressing overspend as required.

  • Review and authorise the ordering of new equipment and supplies, ensuring efficient stock is on site at all times.

  • Attend the catering committee meeting and agree to input innovative menus, changing on a regular basis based on customer feedback and needs.

  • Formulating and updating policies and procedures to ensure high quality service delivery. Reviewing procedures to meet relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.

  • Manage all human resources issues as appropriate, including; recruitment, absence, performance, investigation and disciplinary processes, as well as professional development and payroll authorisation.

     

 

The ideal candidate will have proven experience leading and managing a large team within Catering, ideally across a 24/7 operation. They will also have:

 

  • Experience as a Catering Manager at a senior level, and a passion for quality customer service.

  • A thorough knowledge of food safety standards, and holder of an Advanced Food Hygiene Certificate.

  • Excellent communication and team management skills.

  • Strong basic IT skills, particularly in the use of Microsoft Office and outlook.

  • Experience managing and controlling budgets with evidence of the effective management of contracts, staff and budgets.

  • Proactive attitude, and ability to manage and prioritise workload.
