Diabetes Specialist Dietitian 

£53,751 - £60,651 Inc HCAS pro rata per annum

Part-time - 22.5 hours/week

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic part-time Band 7, Diabetes Specialist Dietitian to work alongside our part-time Diabetes Specialist Dietitian, within our Intermediate Diabetes services team. The post holder will be working in a clinic setting, including on-to-one, face-to-face, virtual, and group settings. You will work across sites in Bromley and visit Nursing homes & patient homes. Although a car driver is not essential, you would be expected to travel around the borough as required.

You will be responsible for the delivery of a high-quality, evidence-based service to patients. This will include specialist expertise to patients with: type 1 diabetes requiring insulin dose adjustment, pump support, and self-management skills support; as well as people with Type 2 diabetes and pre-conception diabetic patients. You will provide education to our patients through DAFNE & DESMOND programmes. 

The experienced team includes specialist nurses, dietitians, and consultants.  We also work closely with the podiatry service.

Main duties of the job

To act as an expert resource, providing clinical advice and support to others involved in providing care for people with diabetes in primary care and community settings.

To be responsible for providing specialist nutrition and dietetic advice as part of a specialist multi-disciplinary diabetes team for people with diabetes and health care providers working in primary care and the community.

To work as an independent practitioner and demonstrate specialist skills and knowledge through expert dietetic practice and diabetes care.

To be responsible and accountable for managing and prioritising a varied patient caseload including patients with complex needs in a range of settings, primary care out-patient clinics, patients homes, nursing homes.

 

To provide complex nutrition and dietetic advice, education and support for

people with diabetes and their carers, including patients with associated medical problems e.g. obesity, hyperlipidaemia, renal disease, swallowing difficulties, and patients requiring enteral feeding.

  • Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent.
  • Advanced specialist knowledge demonstrated by evidence of post-registration courses and experiential learning eg BDA Diabetes modules.
  • Accredited DESMOND/DAFNE Trainer
Desirable criteria
  • MSc in relevant specialist area

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to interpret clinical information/data and develop clinical guidelines protocols and standards.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training programmes for other health professionals and clients.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a variety of community settings and partnership work
  • Experience with pumps and or HCL

Personal Qualities

  • Confident in the use of dietary analysis programmes.
