Job overview
Main duties of the job
- Deliver specialist asthma assessment, education and management for children and young people
- Manage a caseload of patients with complex respiratory needs
- Support asthma reviews within schools, clinics, community venues and family homes
- Work collaboratively with GPs, paediatricians, pharmacists, school nurses, health visitors, social workers, family support services, education colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and neighbourhood-based care planning discussions
- Contribute to integrated care plans that consider both health and wider social determinants of health
- Provide advice and support to professionals across health, education and social care settings
- Lead on asthma education for children, families and professionals
- Support quality improvement initiatives, population health management and service development
- Contribute to reducing health inequalities and improving access to care
- Use population health data to identify and support children at risk of poor asthma outcomes
- Act as an advocate for children, young people and families, ensuring their voice is central to care planning

- Improve asthma control, self-management and quality of life
- Increase access to evidence-based interventions and personalised care planning
- Support children, young people and families closer to home
- Address health inequalities and improve outcomes for vulnerable groups
- Strengthen partnerships between health, education, social care and community services
- Promote prevention, early intervention and proactive case management
- Support children and young people whose asthma is impacted by wider social, environmental or safeguarding factors

Essential criteria
- RN Child/RSCN
- Evidence of specialist asthma training
Desirable criteria
- Quality Improvement or Leadership qualification
- Masters level or working towards

- NMC – child branch
Training
Essential criteria
- Recent study/training relevant to CYP asthma
- NMC SSSA Student Assessor or equivalent e.g. mentorship
Desirable criteria
- Leadership or management training
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post registration experience in paediatrics including asthma management
- Understanding of national asthma guidance (NICE, BTS/SIGN, etc)
- Experience of delivering education/ awareness sessions to patients, families and healthcare professionals
- Experience of working across multi agency systems
Desirable criteria
- Experience in service development or pathway redesign

- Advanced clinical assessment skills for CYP with asthma
- Ability to lead across systems and coordinate multi-agency care
