Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity for a experienced registered nurse looking to expand their skills in renal replacement therapies . You will be learn how to deliver peritoneal dialysis and haemodialysis to our home dialysis cohort . This post is for 37.5 hours a week based in Kent and Canterbury hospital
The working times are 08:00 till 16:00 Monday to Friday or 08:00-18:00 Four Days a week . These times may change due to service needs
We are looking for an individual who is eager to learn, have a kind and caring attitude towards patients and colleagues and can be a positive team member. Within this role you will be looking after patients who have a chronic condition who require peritoneal dialysis or haemodialysis treatment at home
We will provide the in-house training you require to safely carry out your role in both renal replacement therapies . This includes specific dialysis training and further development opportunities within your role. You will have a Band 7 as a mentor and a Band 6 Specialist Nurse for peer support
The main duties of this role include providing care and support to peritoneal dialysis and home haemodialysis patients . This will include undertaking patients clinical assessments which includes fluid status, treatment prescriptions, anaemia, transplant and diabetes management.
The post holder will be expected to do clinics across East and West Kent as-well as training and support to patients at home so will need to have a UK driving license.
Main duties of the job
To assist with management of the Home dialysis service in partnership with all stakeholders to provide support to both patients and carers.
Excellent patient advocate, who works autonomously due to the complex and diverse clinical, emotional and psychosocial needs of the home dialysis cohort, both as outpatients as well as in-patients .
To confidently deputise for the band 7s, incorporating sound judgement when managing various levels of risk, and reporting to the dialysis matron accordingly. This includes working off site and visiting patients in their homes.
The practitioner will work competently at an enhanced practice level providing care aligned to the four pillars of practice. It is envisaged that 100% of this role will be spent in the clinical area, as part of an agreed job plan.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Health related degree relevant to professional registration and area of clinical practice or holds L6 post registration modules with plan to complete degree programme.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and/or recognised course/ qualification within renal (minimum of 2 years dialysis experience)
- Renal course
- Current NMC/HCPC registration.
Desirable criteria
- Formal teaching or preceptorship, mentoring qualification including ENB 998/997, or equivalent
- Member of relevant royal college, professional society
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Significant post graduate healthcare experience, across a range of clinical specialties.
- Experience of delivering high quality clinical care using enhanced skills within dialysis specialty
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- IT skills relevant to digital healthcare and role
