Employer heading
Senior Orthopaedic Scrub Practitioner
Band 6
Job overview
There is exciting opportunities are for band 6 registered scrub theatre practitioners within our new Elective Orthopaedic Centre as part of the surgery and anaesthetics division for East Kent Hospitals.
In the Summer 2021, Kent and Canterbury Hospital welcomed the opening of a brand-new centre, dedicated solely for elective orthopaedic inpatient surgery.
As part of a national pilot aimed to improve the quality and outcomes for orthopaedic patients, “Getting It Right First Time” identified that separating elective services from trauma would combat recurrent winter pressures and reduce waiting times across several key areas.
Main duties of the job
The opening of the Elective Orthopaedic Centre (EOC) will mark the completed second phase of this initiative and provide specialist facilities for the elective orthopaedic patient group.
The EOC will be equipped with four laminar flow theatres, a seven-bed recovery and specifically designed areas to support our patients through their journey. It will accommodate a number of specialities and a variety of complex cases, advancing on the work established in the first phase of the pilot.
This exciting and innovative venture is a testament to how shared objectives, dedicated staff and strong teamwork directly supports excellent patient care and we hope to encourage staff to join us in carrying these ambitions forward.

We have a new way of working at East Kent Hospitals, called 'We care'. It's about empowering frontline staff to lead improvements day-to-day. We're looking for compassionate people to be part of our improvement journey for the patients, families and carers we care for every day.
