Job overview

Please note, at this stage, the role is open only to internal staff (including NHSP and Agency staff currently on placement within our organisation) and staff substantively employed within Kent and Medway NHS Trusts and the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB). Any individual who is at risk of redundancy will be given priority, provided they meet the essential criteria.

A  position has arisen for an Operational Team Manager within our South Kent Coast Mental Health Together Plus service.  

This is an excellent opportunity for a Registered Nurse, Social Worker or Occupational Therapist seeking to take their first step into a management role. 

As Operational Manager you would be required to work collaboratively with the Clinical Leaders and Service Manager in being accountable for the team's performance and operational delivery of safe and effective care.

You will be responsible for the strategic management of targets and performance, including waiting time and caseload management, day to day operational management, which includes staff management such as 1-2-1s, appraisals, wellbeing, sickness, absences, e-rostering, governance and financial management. 

You will be fully supported in this role through regular 1-2-1s with the Service Manager and by the wider Senior Management Team. 

The post holder must hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car/vehicle to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

Main duties of the job

  • To assure all services meet the required local and national targets and standards in relation to quality, performance governance, workforce planning and finance. 
  • To uphold the Trust Values, through developing a positive team “can do” attitude and culture through role modelling and setting out team expectation.
  • To be responsible for the strategic management of targets and performance, including waiting time and caseload management, day to day operational management which includes staff management such as wellbeing, sickness, absences, e-rostering, governance and financial management.
  • To ensure engagement of the full Multi-Disciplinary Team.
  • Monitoring and analysis of data
  • Provision of Managerial Supervision and Appraisal.
  • To have joint responsibility for CQC expectations and deliver this through ensuring team standards are reviewed against any CQC action plan that aims to improve service delivery and consistency in care.
  •      To work collaboratively with Lead Clinician and Lead Nurse to ensure the highest standards of practice and service delivery.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse, registered Social Worker or registered Occupational Therapist (holding diploma or degree qualification).
Desirable criteria
  • Management/Clinical Leadership qualification or equivalent experience.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working as a Band 6 within a Community Mental Health Service.
  • Supervisory/Leadership experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of managing staff groups.
  • Experience of managing change.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and analyses data.
  • Clear understanding of the modernisation agenda across health and social care to influence service development and achievement of targets.
  • Sound knowledge of legislation relevant to area of practice, i.e. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act.
  • Proven organisational skills
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of improvement methodologies and change management Knowledge of Trust Data bases.
  • Sound understanding of QI framework and application.
