Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will join our friendly and ambitious team to provide diagnostic imaging and other investigations within the diagnostic and therapeutic services.
You will work closely with our team of highly professional technologists and radiographers, nursing staff, radiopharmaceutical scientists, Clinical Scientists and our Consultant Physicians.
The department performs a comprehensive range of diagnostic procedures, in vivo and in vitro investigations and radionuclide therapies.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The department performs a comprehensive range of diagnostic procedures, in vivo and in vitro investigations and radionuclide therapies. Currently the department undertakes around 5000 diagnostic studies, including a large number of myocardial perfusion imaging studies, renal, and orthopaedic work
There are particular interests in thyroid and metabolic bone disease. Radionuclide therapies include radioiodine (benign and malignant), and lutetium-177 DOTATATE. The department is well equipped with two 16-slice SPECT/CT cameras, a modern CZT SPECT/CT camera, an onsite licensed radiopharmacy which supports seven NHS nuclear medicine departments and a bespoke purpose built radionuclide therapy suite. The department has strong professional and technical links with neighbouring nuclear medicine, medical physics and radiopharmacy departments in Kent and further afield.
As a specialist Nuclear Medicine Technologist, the post holder will assist in the day-to-day operation of all diagnostic imaging and assist with the technical aspects of diagnostic imaging.
Assist in ensuring patient, staff and public safety through the maintenance of policies, procedures and local rules to achieve compliance with the appropriate legislation and professional standards.
Assist in the secure and appropriate storage of hazardous materials used in the Department and assist in the maintenance of the inventory for such materials.
Share responsibility for ensuring that safe working practices are followed and adhered to by all staff working in the Department.
Participate in the general teaching and training of staff members, students and others as required on equipment use, including instrumentation, aseptic preparation of radiopharmaceuticals and quality control of specialist nuclear medicine equipment.
Attend suitable seminars and courses and national and international scientific meetings as part of personal development and to further the work of the Department.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc(Hons) Degree or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Nuclear medicine Diploma/ degree
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Good knowledge of Nuclear Medicine theory and practice
- Conversant with a range of PC software applications
- Able to receive and handle situations or information that is sensitive or contentious and take appropriate action
Experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of Nuclear medicine
Desirable criteria
- Recent post qualification experience of working in Nuclear Medicine
Skills
Essential criteria
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to prioritise own work and work independently
- Skills to safely manoeuvre wheelchairs, trolleys, hoists and other test equipment
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of using a gamma camera
- Worked in a patient centred role in Nuclear Medicine
