Job Title: Clinical Education Midwife

Salary: £35,392 - £42,618 per annum/pro rata

We are recruiting for a Clinical Education Midwife who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.

The post holder will be part of the Maternity Education Team who work cohesively to develop and support the multi-professional team within maternity. The team work collaboratively to support and develop staff, as well as having close working relationships with the wider maternity teams such as risk and governance, to generate improvements in services and outcomes for women and their families.

The post holder will be involved in the implementation and delivery of education to all members of the maternity multi-professional team. This role, however, has a significant focus on the support of all clinical staff.

The post holder will have gained substantial midwifery experience  in the  antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal settings which will serve them in providing clinical education to maternity staff. As this  role will involve the facilitation of training, education and professional development of all relevant clinical staff relating to all aspects of care, in accordance with local and national guidelines, to ensure that staff are competent and fit for practice.

Participate in training of maternity education mandatory programmes including PROMPT and MDT simulation training

To supervise practice and the delivery of client care in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct

Promote good working relationships and collaborative working with the multi-disciplinary team both within the directorate and the rest of the Trust.

Improve the safety and experience of patients/service users/carers by developing staff to provide the appropriate level of clinical knowledge, skills and competencies. This will include establishing or use of existing systems to demonstrate practice development improvements, link training into risk assessment and share best practice.

Train and assess staff in the workplace in the use of specified equipment and medical devices.

Plan and maximise opportunities to deliver work-based (as opposed to non-work-based) learning

Develop and participate in audit, risk management, quality, practice and education initiatives and drive and support the implementation of change as necessary.

Support the implementation of key projects as identified by the Head of Midwifery in line with Trust-wide initiatives.

Support the education and training programmes to ensure that knowledge, skills and competencies of the professional are able to meet patients' and carers' needs to develop learning outcomes

Co-ordinate and support midwives on the development programmes and preceptorship documents

Support practice supervisors and practice assessors and ward/unit staff.

Facilitate the orientation of all new members of staff.

In liaison with the Lead Midwife for Education to identify and develop as required policies, procedures and competency progression frameworks that support the education and training of staff.

Support the development of their competence and confidence of newly qualified midwives within their preceptorship.

Participate in the on call rota

Ensure that training and education and professional development needs are met and staff feel empowered and supported.

Evidence of improved skills, knowledge and attitude to support high quality patient care.

Support improvements in the educational environment of the clinical area.

Directly contribute to clinical care, impacting on standards of care and providing clinical leadership and role model expertise and behaviour

Positive influence across the wider multidisciplinary team

Ensure that best practice is maintained for the maternity service by reviewing and implementing evidence based practice, research, policies, procedures, training and education.

Qualifications

  • NMC Registered Midwife
  • Minimum of 3 years post registration
  • Leadership/management qualification or working towards

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of national maternity agenda and current issues relating to the NHS
  • Awareness of key principles of risk management process
  • Knowledge of Clincial Negligence Scheme for Trusts and criteria needed for the education team to comply
  • A knowledgeable clinician with the ability to apply evidence to practice

Experience

  • Evidence of effective teaching skills
