Job Overview

Job Title: Locum Consultant Orthodontist

Division: Surgery and Anaesthetics

Care Group: Theatres and Anaesthesia

Salary: £113,565 - £150,569 per annum pro rata

We are recruiting for a Locum Consultant Orthodontist who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.

This post is for a locum part-time (4.2 PA) Consultant Orthodontist appointment at the Medway Maritime Hospital starting in January 2027 (or as soon as possible after this date) for 6 months, with a view to a substantive position in the future.

The new Consultant would join two existing Consultant Orthodontists to provide a comprehensive Orthodontic Service to the people of West Kent and Medway. The post will involve multidisciplinary care for patients with the most complex problems, as well as advice and treatment for all appropriately referred patients.

The postholder’s caseload is likely to include a significant number of patients requiring a multi-disciplinary approach, such as orthognathic, hypodontia, impacted teeth and cleft lip and palate.

The department offers a high-quality orthodontic referral service for local general dentists, specialist practitioners, community dentists, general medical practitioners and other consultant colleagues. All patients referred will be seen for a consultation and treated, if deemed necessary, by the consultant and his / her team.  Only patients who fall within IOTN categories 4 and 5 and whose treatment is deemed sufficiently complex (Level 3b) will be routinely offered treatment.  Medway is a spoke for the South Thames Cleft Service and treats a considerable number of cleft patients.
