Applicants must have a minimum of 3 years experience in General Paediatrics and Full GMC Registration.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  1. To provide acute general paediatric cover to in-patient and out-patient services (without need for neonatal service cover). 
  2. To provide Paediatric Assessment Unit care as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  3. By arrangement to cover colleagues during periods of annual and study leave.
  4. Administrative duties include those associated with the care of the patients and the running of the clinical department.
  5. Help in the supervision and teaching of nursing and junior medical staff.
  6. Participate actively in quality improvement activity/ clinical audit and implement its results.
  7. The post-holder will undertake, exceptionally, to perform additional duties in emergency and unforeseen circumstances as are essential for continuity of patient care.
  8. Abiding by the clinical and corporation governance policies of the Trust. 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Medical Degree (MBBS or Equivalent)
  • Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
  • MRCPCH
  • BLS Certification
  • APLS/ EPALS Certification - can be obtained within 2 months of being in post.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of 3 years in General Paediatrics.
  • Experience of working in a hospital based setting post MBBS for minimum of 5 years
  • Awareness of NHS processes
  • Awareness of current Governance and Management processes; in particular understanding of safety reporting, investigations, quality improvement methodology and implementation.
  • Awareness of morbidity and mortality issues; our department has twice monthly review meetings to maintain excellent clinical standards, provide team support and feedback, and to fulfil both local and national reporting mechanisms

  • Experience of working or Observership in NHS hospital
