We are recruiting for a Radiopharmacy Technician who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.
Main duties of the job
A hard to refuse one year fixed term maternity cover (potentially extendable) opportunity has arisen for those who wish to advance their career in radiopharmacy to join our small but friendly team of radiopharmaceutical scientists in our licensed manufacturing unit. We provide a radiopharmacy service to NHS and private nuclear medicine departments in Kent, Sussex and London. You will be involved in daily radiopharmaceutical production and radiochemical purity testing of finished products.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will act as a Radiopharmacy Technician in providing a high quality and specialist radiopharmacy service to meet the needs of the Medway NHS Foundation Trust and neighbouring nuclear medicine departments under Service Level Agreements and play a significant role in the aseptic preparation activities in a licensed radiopharmacy.
Preparation activities include reconstitution of diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals to EU Good Manufacturing Practice whilst ensuring compliance with the standard provisions for the Medway NHS Foundation Trust Manufacturer’s ‘Specials’ Licence and all other relevant provisions/guides/EC Directives where applicable to licensed activities.
Radiolabelling of blood products, routine and non-routine product and equipment related quality control testing to defined protocols as laid down in the Radiopharmacy Quality Manual will also be performed.
Ensure all radiopharmaceutical products are accurately and safely produced, appropriately labelled and stored in order to obtain the required quality.
Ensure all radioactive consignments and their corresponding transport documents to the outside centres are appropriately packaged and accurately prepared.
Liaise and deal with complaints or queries arising from the outside centres with regard to, for example, product supply interruptions or specialist technical product related issues.
Perform radiolabelling of blood products to the standards set out in the Radiopharmacy Quality Manual and to ensure that labelled blood products are ready for use by the requested time.
The post holder must abide by their professional code of conduct.

Essential criteria
- Good manual dexterity in aseptic manufacturing, methodical with attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both in written and verbal formats with staff and patients
- Ability to use initiative and work as part of a team.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritise own work and work independently.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc (Hons) degree in Clinical Technology, Biology, Chemistry or other relevant graduate qualification in a scientific discipline.
- Relevant state registration/professional chartered status.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- An appreciation of the relevant rules and regulations.
- Specialist clean room and isolator technology.
- Knowledge in radiation protection.
- High level of numeracy and computer literacy with a range of PC software applications.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant proven demonstrable post qualification experience in aseptic production to EU Good Manufacturing Practice.
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
