Maintenance Assistant

Job overview

As a Maintenance Assistant you will have, and or become knowledgeable in various Maintenance activities associated  including Planned and reactive maintenance tasks, while working to targets and deadlines. Reporting to the department manager you will need to be proactive and have good communication and customer facing skills, with a can do approach.

The  Assistant will carry out unsupervised un-skilled and semi-skilled works on all MTW Trust systems. They will be expected to assist the Mechanicanical and Electrical Technicians to carry out pre planned maintenance and repair works.

They will also provide assistance in the completion of other  tasks in accordance with the Heath Technical Memorandums.

To work in accordance with all relevant guidance documents such as, but not limited to, Hospital Technical Memorandums, Health & Safety at Work Act, COSHH, and all other statutory instruments and guidance documents.

Main duties of the job

To comply at all times with the Estates related Quality Assurance system procedures. Use all relevant tools and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works. 

Assist with maintenance etc.Building issues,Mechanical issues, unblock sinks, toilets, wastes, drains, traps, as required using appropriate equipment.

Complete allocated reactive and planned work in accordance with Trust and departmental policies and procedures.

Respond to emergency and urgent repair requests in a timely and effective manner, restoring services where possible or making services safe until more extensive or specialist work can be undertaken and completed. Ensuring that all areas in which work is undertaken are kept in a clean and tidy condition, to ensure minimum disruption to the building occupants, and a safe working environment.

Accurate completion and population of all job sheets with relevant information. Carry out any other reasonable tasks as directed or requested by  Technical Officers and Technical Supervisors.

They will be expected to undertake appropriate training including Health and Safety training.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ2 or City & Guilds in an engineering discipline – or an equivalent level of experience.

Knowledge/ Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of the maintenance procedures relating to the complex and specialised engineering services, systems, plant and equipment within a hospital Trust – both Mechanical and Electrical.
  • Working knowledge of Health & Safety regulations.
  • Recognition and understanding of the Electricity at Work Regulations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of routine fire alarm testing requirements.
  • Experience of working within a primary or secondary care environment,
  • Proven experience of working in an equivalent role.
  • Experience of carrying out unsupervised building fabric maintenance and minor repair work.
  • Experience of carrying out routine PPM using computer-aided facilities management (CAFM) systems.
  • Ability to work at height using access from ladders/scaffold/MEWP.

  • Ability to work as part of a team or on own initiative on a wide range of applications across the Trust.
  • To be able to work under pressure to resolve major disruptions.

  • UK Current driving licence
