Do you enjoy talking to patients and wish you could spend more time with them, helping them make a good recovery? We are looking for staff with experience in working with patients and an understanding on how hospitals work to join a small team of Tobacco Dependency Advisors. The team works together with other professional groups supporting patients during and after their hospital stay. We are looking for non clinical people who can relate to patients, has excellent people skills and can help motivate patients to make steps towards better health and is able to engage with the wider healthcare team.
We have hours available for 0.6 wte (3 days), Monday-Friday office hours at Tunbridge Wells Hospital and in Maidstone Hospital. You may be expected to work across site.

Plan and deliver stop smoking advice and support sessions with indirect supervision, including advice on stop smoking medications.
· Take referrals, including self-referrals into the service and work with patients to identify the most appropriate tobacco dependency treatment pathway.
· Support individuals to make informed choices about their health and wellbeing and support them in initiating and sustaining appropriate behavioural changes to improve their health
· Engage in the data collection.
· Support the delivery of the service.
· Foster good working relationships with tobacco dependency service team and staff within other teams and partner agencies to strengthen service delivery
· Communicate effectively with patients over telephone.
· Communicate effectively with a range of staff across disciplines, grades and organisations.
· Establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, relatives and colleagues.
· Contribute to the long-term development of the secondary care tobacco dependency treatment service.
· The ability to safely move and handle displays and training equipment.
· Manage booking and running telephone follow ups with patients post discharge, providing continuity of support for the patient.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- A’ levels or equivalent work experience
- Functional skills English and maths level 2 or GCSE English and maths grade C/4 or above
- Able to undertake the training as a Level 2 Stop Smoking Advisor and maintain the training on a yearly basis
Desirable criteria
- Completion of the Care Certificate (or equivalent healthcare qualification)
- NVQ/Diploma level 3 in Healthcare (or equivalent healthcare qualification) or completion of a level 3 Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship
Exeprience/ Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience in working clinically within the healthcare setting or in working in the smoke free service
- Experience of engaging and collaborating with communities, individuals, and multidisciplinary teams
- Knowledge of the common conditions/ illnesses/complex needs of patients in hospital
Desirable criteria
- A flexible approach to work with a commitment to flexible working arrangements
Skills
Essential criteria
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Able to communicate accurately and effectively with patients and colleagues verbally and in writing
- Can understand and communicate factual information accurately
