Staff Nurse

Band 5

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a forward thinking, dynamic and caring individual to play a key role in the continued development and leadership of our respiratory ward. Come and join our respiratory team on John Day Ward at Maidstone Hospital.

We are looking to appoint registered nurses with a range of experience on John Day Ward. All candidates are to have a strong clinical background, are able to demonstrate a real passion for respiratory nursing, good leadership skills and can continue to assist the ward manager and junior sisters to drive the fast paced respiratory wards forward.

John Day Ward is 31 bedded respiratory ward, including 8 single rooms, catering for patients’ requiring non-invasive ventilation, OPTIFLOW, chest drains and those with tracheostomies. The areas care for a variety of people with a many complex medical conditions, including acute and chronic respiratory conditions. Experience within a medical setting is desirable but the ward is well equipped to cater for newly qualified staff. Further education, both internal and external study days are part of your induction period.

You will be forward-thinking and inspirational, whilst maintaining fundamental ward care as their priority. You should have a desire to develop themselves and staff who want to care for our respiratory clients and have a passion to drive this specialty forward.

You must be an excellent role model and be capable of building strong working relationships with all members of a multidisciplinary team. You must also be able to demonstrate an ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining a positive outlook.

John Day Ward offers unique ratios of 1 nurse to 4 acutely unwell patients or 1:8 depending on acuity and dependency and we work closely with the critical care and specialist respiratory teams.

You will be expected to attend the Trust’s Induction Programme for RNs, RMs and ODPs (which starts on the first day of employment). The programme is full-time (please contact the programme lead if this is problematic: nicola.henthorn@nhs.net), lasts for two weeks and will involve travelling to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area and classroom-based study days which run from 9am to 5pm.

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at enhanced level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children)

Closing Date: Thursday 1st March 2018
