Junior Clinical Fellow in Urology

Junior Clinical Fellow

Job overview

This post is based in the Department of Urology within Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (MTW). This post will be based at the Maidstone Hospital site, with a requirement for occasional cross site work.

This is a post at Junior Clinical Fellow level, ideal for doctors who have completed their foundation training and/or core training, or trust doctors with relevant clinical experience in urology, whether before applying for a formal urology training programme or as part of broader surgical training.

It is also well-suited for international trainees with prior clinical experience who wish to acquire NHS urology experience.

The post offers a stimulating and well-supported working environment within a department with a strong track record of postgraduate and undergraduate education.

Main duties of the job

Co-ordinate and support the daily emergency urology take, assessing and managing referrals in conjunction with the on-call Registrar and Consultant of the Week.

Provide day-to-day ward care for emergency and post-operative urology patients, including post-take ward rounds, daily review of inpatients, and timely escalation of concerns.

Provide clinical leadership and support to a team of four FY1 doctors, supervising their day-to-day clinical duties and providing day-to-day educational support.

Work closely with the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) providing 24/7 out-of-hours cover, ensuring effective handover and continuity of care.

Perform procedures appropriate to grade (e.g. catheterisation, bladder washouts, wound and drain management) under appropriate supervision.

Attend and assist in outpatient clinics as timetabled. Typically 1-2 clinics per week.

Assist in theatre for elective and emergency urological procedures.

Take referrals from primary care and other specialties, with the support of the Registrar of the Week.

Complete discharge notifications, summaries and clinic letters as directed.

Engage with the Registrar of the Week / Consultant of the Week model, escalating appropriately and always ensuring clear communication.
