Are you passionate about staff safety, patient dignity, and enabling independence in the community? Bromley Healthcare is seeking an experienced and motivated Moving and Handling Trainer to join our team on a part-time basis. This Band 6 role plays a vital part in supporting the delivery of high-quality, safe care across our community services.
You will design and deliver engaging, evidence-based training in manual handling and the Trusted Assessor framework, empowering clinical and care staff to work safely, confidently, and in line with national best practice. Working closely with our Quality, Clinical Education, and Health & Safety teams, you'll help drive safe systems of work, reduce risk, and promote a positive safety culture.
As a clinically registered professional with experience in a healthcare or community setting, you’ll use your knowledge of manual handling techniques, equipment, minor adaptations, and risk assessment to deliver impactful training and advice. You will also support and mentor our internal Key Train the Trainers (KTTs) to ensure consistent standards are maintained across the organisation.

Main duties of the job
Plan, deliver and evaluate Moving and Handling and Trusted Assessor training for clinical and non-clinical staff across classroom, simulation, and community settings. Provide expert advice and in-situ support for complex or high-risk handling scenarios, including in patients’ homes and care settings. Promote the safe and effective use of equipment, including hoists, slide sheets, beds, and small aids that support patient independence. Maintain current knowledge of manual handling legislation and ensure training content and guidance reflect best practice and legal requirements.
Support incident investigations and audits, contributing to learning actions and service improvement initiatives. Mentor and quality-assure Bromley Healthcare’s Key Train the Trainers (KTTs) to ensure consistency, competence, and safe delivery. Liaise with equipment providers and loan services to stay updated on new developments and innovations. Work with Quality and Governance leads to ensure policy and training are compliant and evidence-based, and support reviews and amendments as needed. Maintain accurate documentation of training and assessments, and provide leadership and expert advice in all aspects of moving and handling across the organisation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Plan, deliver, and evaluate Moving and Handling and Trusted Assessor training for staff in clinical and non-clinical roles.

Provide bespoke, practical training support across multiple settings including classroom, simulation and in the community including patients' homes, clinics, and care homes.

Maintain oversight of current manual handling legislation and ensure Bromley Healthcare’s training and guidance reflect these standards.

Support incident investigations involving manual handling concerns and contribute to the development of learning actions.

Carry out on-site assessments with staff to resolve complex or high-risk moving and handling cases.

Advise on the use and provision of appropriate manual handling equipment, including hoists, slide sheets, profiling beds, and small aids.

Work closely with external suppliers and equipment loan stores to stay up to date with innovations and training on new equipment.

Document training activities, assessments, and evaluations in line with governance requirements.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered healthcare professional (e.g. Nurse, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist) with current NMC/HCPC registration
- Recognised Moving and Handling Trainer qualification
- Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent teaching/training qualification)
Desirable criteria
- Qualified Trusted Assessor or willingness to complete accredited course
- Manual Handling Risk Assessor qualification
- Relevant postgraduate qualification in Health and Safety, Ergonomics or Clinical Education
Training
Essential criteria
- Evidence of recent CPD in moving and handling or related practice
- Willingness to maintain and update training competencies regularly
Desirable criteria
- - Attendance at national conferences or workshops in manual handling, equipment assessment, or community safety
Specific Skills
Essential criteria
- Strong knowledge of manual handling legislation (MHOR 1992, H&S at Work Act, etc.)
- Skilled in assessing risk and advising on complex handling cases, including bariatric care
- Competent in designing and delivering interactive, evidence-based training
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Confident using IT to produce and manage training materials
Desirable criteria
- Familiarity with community equipment services and prescribing processes
- Knowledge of current assistive technology and equipment innovations
Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven post-registration clinical experience
- Experience working in a community or multi-disciplinary healthcare setting
- Proven experience delivering manual handling training or education
- Awareness of or experience recommending minor adaptations and small aids (e.g. chair/bed risers, grab rails, transfer boards) to support patient independence and timely discharge in line with Trusted Assessor principles
- Demonstrated experience with complex patient handling or home adaptations
Desirable criteria
- Prior experience conducting incident investigations or audits related to manual handling
Information Technology

- Proficient in Microsoft Office and presentation tools
- Able to maintain accurate records and use e-learning or LMS platforms
