Daily promotion of a positive, supportive and non-stigmatizing culture in relation to mental ill health and psychiatric illnesses
To provide psychosocial assessment of patients presenting with a broad range of mental health, psychological problems and psychiatric illnesses encompassing highly developed risk assessment and management skills
Daily provision of a wide range of clinical skills and psychosocial interventions to patients who present with mental health problems in line with NIMHE, NICE and NHS guidance
Daily provision of a comprehensive mental health consultation-liaison service to clinical teams providing clear and concise advice regarding the appropriate management of individuals referred
Provide regular assistance to clinical teams in the formulation of appropriate plans of care or decision making where patients are exhibiting complex needs with a mental health component
To develop protocols and care pathways for the treatment and referral of people with mental ill health based on national and local guidelines/policy
To regularly provide prompt referrals to statutory and non-statutory agencies utilising a wide range of follow up options in line with the principles of the ‘recovery’ model and social inclusion

Maintain accurate written records and statistics to ensure that service user details and details of care given are recorded in notes and on the trust database(s) in line with trust policy
Ensure the physical health needs of service users are met, including advice, support and health education to both service users and carers
Provide and receive complex and sensitive information from service users, carers or other professionals and agencies, on a daily basis
Ensure that psychological intervention or treatment is offered to service users as outlined in National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines
Work with and support other members of the multi-disciplinary team, using clinical judgements in the absence of key members of the team, including medical staff
Ability to access profession specific CPD activities that support professional registration
Ability and commitment to access professional supervision
Regular participation in quality assurance initiatives with the emphasis on service development and user satisfaction
Personal responsibility for completion of specific clinical projects undertaking all the necessary tasks such as facilitating meetings, liaison or negotiation with other staff/stakeholders
Personal accountability to ensure that clinical practice accords to local policy, national policy and professional code of conduct
Regular integration and liaison with Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Teams including clinical practice
Facilitate and formulate the delivery of care
Undertaking other duties as appropriate to the post as requested by senior managers

Up to date knowledge of national and local guidance relevant to liaison psychiatry (e.g. Parity of esteem agenda, Crisis Care Concordat, National Suicide Prevention Strategy, Relevant NICE Guidelines)
A working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act, Duty of Candour
Knowledge of the effects of physical health and long term conditions on mental health and wellbeing
Interpersonal skills: good communicator, problem solving abilities, calm under pressure, engaging, alignment with KMPT values. Ability to work according to Trust Values at all times, especially in complex and challenging situations
Clinical skills: Robust mental health needs assessment, including risk and Mental State Examination/Formulation ability.
Training: Ability to deliver in ad hoc and formal education sessions
Information Technology: Ability to use IT systems effectively and in a timely way
Travelling: Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner

Job Summary

Our work in Cellular and Molecular Therapies (CMT) is central to the provision and improvement of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. This work enables us to support approximately half of stem cell transplants carried out in England each year through a network of GMP grade laboratories. We also carry out translational research and development activities with academic and commercial partners to ensure we are at the forefront of improvements to transplantation and related fields. Our expertise in GMP, quality and regulatory matters ensures that we always maintain the highest standards in the first-class service we offer.

You will be working as part of a laboratory team, including clinical and biomedical scientists together with other health care professionals. You will be involved in the production of cell therapies and the role you perform will directly contribute to saving and improving patient’s lives.

You will have the opportunity to learn new skills particularly related to the production of new cell therapies which are being developed for testing in clinical trials.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will lead in the development and maintenance of scientific and technical expertise within a modern well equipped cell therapy laboratory. You will also be involved in providing training and guidance to healthcare scientists in your area of expertise.

Your responsibilities will include:

· Analysing, interpreting, validating, and reporting the results of routine and complex / specialist investigations, working at the level of responsibility and conduct required of a registered Biomedical Scientist

· Analysing and performing complex/specialist testing and processing of cells and/or tissues for cryopreservation and therapeutic clinical use using complex/specialist scientific equipment such as flow cytometers and cell selection/depletion protocols and maintain equipment to the required standards.

· Receiving and communicating highly complex and specialist advice to/from internal and external clinicians, nurses and scientific staff on for example test results.

· Ensuring cells and/or tissue products meet all specifications necessary for patient safety and therapeutic use according to internal and external quality requirements and operating within the boundaries of good manufacturing and laboratory practice.

· Supervising and coordinating other staff, working late some weekday evenings and/or weekends as required.

You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.

About You

Experience and Knowledge

· In depth knowledge of transfusion/transplantation science.

· High level of expertise in relevant transfusion specialism, ideally demonstrated by publications.

· Knowledge and evidence of application of the standards of Good Manufacturing Practice, HTA and MHRA regulations, JACIE guidelines and other relevant or statutory guidelines.

· Supervisory experience, including training and mentoring of colleagues.

· Experience of working in a stem cell, tissue services, Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I), Haematology, diagnostic or testing service environment.

· Experience of working with Information Technology such as Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and high level of proficiency in relevant specialised laboratory techniques/ environments.

· Demonstrable experience in research and development projects.

Qualifications and Training

· MSc in transfusion/transplantation or relevant science. OR IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma. OR PhD or Professional Doctorate in a relevant field. OR Alternative training and equivalent experience.

· Registration with Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist / Clinical Scientist, which must be maintained.

· Member of a professional body e.g., British Blood Transfusion Society (BBTS)/ British Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (BSHI).

· Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).
