Main duties of the job

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated Band 6 Charge Nurse to join our rehabilitation‑focused inpatient ward. With 14 beds supporting both step‑up and step‑down patients, our service plays a vital role in helping individuals regain independence, build confidence and safely return home. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team committed to high‑quality, patient‑centred care.

As a Charge Nurse, you’ll take a leading role in the day‑to‑day running of the ward while delivering excellent clinical care. Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing hands‑on personal care and clinical support to patients

• Acting as a positive role model and supporting junior colleagues in their development

• Supervising and teaching students on placement

• Completing admission assessments, onward referrals and contributing to discharge planning

• Managing a daily caseload and ensuring safe, effective patient flow

• Attending MDT meetings, daily board rounds and family meetings to support collaborative care

• Monitoring patient progress, identifying deterioration and taking appropriate action

• Leading the ward operationally and providing cover for the Matron when required
