Job overview

·    Accountability - The Triage Midwife has the overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of maternity triage.  

·    To practice in an environment where safety for the mother and baby are paramount.  There will be an expectation to prioritise work effectively and efficiently.

·   To be a champion of midwifery led care

·   To provide clinical and management leadership, within the midwifery service.

·   To provide comprehensive midwifery care in acute and primary health care settings, prioritising work effectively and efficiently.

·   To provide a visible and accessible authoritative presence in clinical areas.

·   To work as a Triage Core Band 7 who will be responsible for the day-to-day co-ordination of the activity Triage and the close coordination of the key areas in the unit.

·    To be the clinical expert and resource person encompassing the full scope of midwifery practice.

·   To provide supervision and management of all midwives and clinical support workers, maternity support workers and registered nurses working within the named area

·   To be responsible and accountable for finances and human resources issues directly related to the clinical area

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check at Enhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children). If a role involves regulated activity and requires a DBS check with a barred list check, you cannot apply if you are on the barred list.

All successful applicants will be required to complete our corporate trust induction once a start date had been agreed. 

Following your corporate induction you will be expected to attend the Trust’s 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email [email protected] if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Applicants whose first language is not English and who are required to provide a language test certificate as evidence of their proficiency must ensure that it is, or is equivalent to, IELTS level 7.0 with no element below 6.5.

Essential criteria
  • RM and eligible to practice
  • Working at a degree level
  • Mentorship in Practice / SSSA supervisor and assessor
  • Evidence of further study and development of professional and academic skills
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership/ management qualification
  • Non-Medical Prescribing Course
  • Presentation scanning

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates substantial experience at band 6 or above or equivalent in all areas of midwifery practice
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate Midwifery care for women and their babies
  • Experience of managing a team
  • Experience of acting as a mentor to both qualified midwives and students encouraging evidence based practice
Desirable criteria
  • To have developed local and national networks

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Sound knowledge of recent Government/Professional documents with awareness of implications to service provision.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and how Additional Support Form process works, including Social Services
  • Ability to judge and make decisions regarding safeguarding issues and advice others regarding complex or sensitive cases
  • Ability to work within acute and primary health care settings.
