Job overview
This is an appointment to the Department of Trauma & Orthopaedics based in Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Hospitals. The post is aimed at a surgeon who has completed their Orthopaedic training and has passed the FRCS(Orth.), who is planning a career in shoulder and elbow surgery. The post holder will work with the three shoulder surgeons in the Trust, gaining experience from working with them, and will also have the opportunity to practice independently. The fellow attends the elective and upper limb fracture clinic and operates on elective and trauma shoulder lists. They are on call on the middle grade rota, doing general Orthopaedic trauma when on call. There are parallel lists with the consultants and independent fellow lists in the new Barn-style Kent and Medway Orthopaedic Centre that opened in September 2024.
Main duties of the job
The fellow will attend elective and fracture upper limb clinics. They will enjoy supervised operating of both elective and trauma shoulder and elbow patients, as well as independent operating on parallel theatre lists and unsupervised lists. On-call commitment is required as per the rota.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide a high standard of care to any patient for whom you have clinical responsibility. This will include any patients referred to you and cared for by you personally or by members of your team and, in addition, any patients of consultant colleagues when you are covering on-call or for annual leave.
To participate in clinical and other service activities and developments with the aim of ensuring a high standard of patient care across the Trust.
Undertake clinic activities as required by the specialty need.
To work in close co-operation with other medical, professional and managerial colleagues, both within and outside the specialty, to provide high quality health care to the Trust’s patients, and to make a contribution to future thinking about the Trust’s strategic direction.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBBS or Equivalent
- GMC Registration
- Possession or within 6 months of CCT
Desirable criteria
- Distinctions, scholarships, prizes
- Other degrees, e.g. BSc, MSc MD
Research/Audit
