An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health Care Assistant to join out  Lower Limb Vascular team. The succesful candidate will be frindly and compassionate with the ability to support in the delivery of patient centred care. 

Based at Acorn Primary Health Care Centre in Accrington the Team form part of the East Lancashire Hospitals Trust Community specialist services.  The service provides  diagnosis ,assessment and specialist advice regarding peripheral arterial disease  and works within the clinic and domiciliary setting .A full range of investigations and ongoing management of the lower limb is delivered by this team

We are seeking an experienced heath care assistant who is able to assist our registered nurses to deliver safe, personal and effective care within both the clinic setting and in patient's own homes. Experience of working within clinic and community settings would be advantageous.  

 

 

Main duties of the job

 The post holder will be expected to be involved in phlebotomy.

  • To participate in Vascular Clinics, Leg Cafes and Home visits for various client groups.
  • Required to set own priorities to manage time and workload.
  • Required to implement moving and handling procedures.
  • Required to carry out competence based clinical skills as delegated by a qualified nurse eg. Leg Ulcer Care, venous blood samples etc.
  • Required to prepare patient prior to treatment by qualified nurse eg. Washing legs prior to ulcer treatment etc.
  • Required to give advice to patients and families on aspects of care, this will include skin care, management of hosiery etc.
  • To participate in assessments and observations in support of qualified nursing staff, reporting findings and any changes in patients condition.
  • Be familiar with safe management of body fluids, and soiled dressings in line with infection control procedures.
  • Be familiar with the safe disposal of all sharps
  • To undertake ordering of equipment and nursing supplies when required.
  • To participate in general housekeeping / clerical duties to maintain the working environment.
  • To undertake all duties within the agreed standards/competencies set for the sphere of practice and planned by the Clinical Lead 
  • To promote the privacy and dignity of clients at all times, respecting the confidential nature of the work  as defined by the Trust.
  • To carry out other duties as requested by the trust.

The successful applicant will support the registered nurses within the team with investigations including phlebotomy, observations, moving and handling, application of compression hosiery,  housekeeping, maintaining patient safety, dignity and confidentiality.

Car driver essential to role  as visits undertaken to patient's own homes and clinics delivered in other community settings as well as Acorn Centre

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 in Care or Equivalent or willing to work towards it

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in a caring environment normally minimum of 6 months
  • Knowledge / Experience in a Primary Care / Community Setting
