This vacancy includes an attractive welcome bonus of £3000 and a further £2000 after the 1st year and a further £2000 after the 2nd year as well as an attractive relocation package of up to £8000.

Mental Health and Learning Disability Nurse to join us in our inpatient services.

We are looking for caring, empathetic, enthusiastic individuals who have a passion to improve the lives of our patients. These roles will be to provide care and support to patients who require mental health interventions, guidance or monitoring.

We are seeking confident individuals who are keen to contribute to the delivery of high quality nursing care and service development. You should have a strong interest of working with patients with mental health needs and substantial experience of working in a challenging environment. You should have a high level of resilience and patience and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to demonstrate a warm, patient centred approach to care.

You must be able to demonstrate effective leadership skills and engage in multi-disciplinary team working. You will be expected to facilitate and coordinate the delivery of a mental health service, taking a lead in, and supporting the ward teams with complex patient care, for those with mental health needs. You will have direct line management and supervision responsibilities providing support and leadership to junior staff whilst taking on the role of mentor/assessor.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead a team of registered nurses and nursing assistants in the delivery of mental health care. The post holder will promote the interests of service users and ensure that delegated nursing care is effectively implemented in a safe manner. The post holder will exercise professional accountability and responsibility using professional skills, knowledge and expertise in changing environments, across professional boundaries and in unfamiliar situations. The post holder will use research, audit, enquiry and scholarship to plan, implement and evaluate concepts and strategies leading to improvements in care.

*The £7k Welcome Bonus package applies to this role.  The bonus is only available for people who are not currently employed (or who have not been employed in the last 12 months) by any NHS provider trust in the Lancashire & South Cumbria Integrated Care System in a like-for-like role; e.g. a Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse at another Trust in the LSC ICS would not be eligible for the bonus if moving to a Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse role at LSCFT. Bank only workers for Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust are eligible for the scheme if they have not held a substantive role in Lancashire & South Cumbria Integrated Care System in the last 12 months (subject to all other terms and conditions being met). These incentives are subject to recovery clauses within the first 24 months of employment. This bonus is applicable to any successful candidate whose interview for this role is conducted prior to 30th June 2024.

The £7k Welcome Bonus package is designed to attract and retain the very best staff in post. The amount a new starter would receive is shown in the Welcome Bonus Payment Schedule below:

  • £3,000 after 2 months of employment (counted from start date with LSCFT)
  • £2,000 after 12 months
  • £2,000 after 24 months
