Job overview

This is a 6 month Junior Clinical Fellow post in ENT Surgery.

The rota is EWTD compliant.

The post holder will  take part in provision of care for the in-patients, perioperative care of patients undergoing surgery and outpatient clinics .

The post-holder will have opportunity to  gain ENT experience in both clinics and theatre, as well as regularly participating in audit and 
publications. 


ENT is based at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital, which houses the main state of the art  outpatient department and inpatient facility. Outpatients in Burnley are seen at St Peter’s Centre in  Burnley town centre. Same day surgery is also carried out at Burnley General Teaching Hospital. 

The department has a high reputation for teaching and innovation, both regionally and nationally.  Over 80% of all operations are carried out as day cases. Trust grade doctors will have a significant involvement in clinics and theatre lists

Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for the post of Junior Clinical Fellow in ENT based at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Department has a 12 bedded Unit shared with Oral and Maxillo-Facial Surgery at Royal Blackburn Hospital. Burnley General Hospital is the centre for day surgery.

The ENT Department consists of six  Consultants, one Associate Specialist, two Specialist Registrars and two Specialty Doctors.

The rota is EWTD compliant.

The post is classed as non training grade but the department is fully committed to provide equivalent level of training to the post holder with a named clinical supervisor and regular appraisals. There is great opportunity to be involved with departmental audit and research projects. You will gain excellent clinical experience and have the opportunity to further your skills and attend theatres.

A first class medical library and substantial facilities for higher education and training are available within the Trust.

The appointee will be required to live within 10 miles or 30 minutes travel time by car of the relevant Trust Hospital base.

A satisfactory medical examination is a condition of employment for Medical and Dental staff in the NHS.
