East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust are looking to appoint a Specialty Doctor post in Ear, Nose and Throat.  

We are a friendly supportive department and are firmly committed to education. We receive good feedback from trainees. This will require some ability to work independently although Consultant cover is always available. 

Main duties of the job

On appointment the successful candidate will work across both principal sites, Royal Blackburn and Royal Burnley Teaching Hospitals and associated ENT outpatient departments including St Peter’s health Centre in Burnley, providing general ENT outpatient and elective surgical care. 

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring safe working practices by maintaining and providing evidence of their skills as outlined nationally in the generic capabilities framework for the Specialist grade. They will also conduct their duties with regard to the Trust’s vision and values and behaviour framework.

This role will include cross site 2nd on call cover with wigan and requires the individual to have their own transport, full registration with GMC, and 6 months experience in NHS.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is a substantive post to maintain the provision of ENT services for elective and emergency patients. The successful candidate will be expected to autonomously undertake outpatient clinics and elective surgery.

The on-call commitment will be on a 1:8 basis (prospective).

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice
  • MB ChB or equivalent
  • Previous experience within the NHS
Desirable criteria
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent Higher degree (Ear, Nose & Throat)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of six years of experience in ENT at Specialist Registrar or Staff Grade or Specialty Doctor or Clinical Fellow level.
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion independently in a range of ENT problems within the specialty
  • Minimum of 6 months experience of working within the NHS
Desirable criteria
  • Attendance at courses in teaching, appraisal and mentorship. Organisation of Educational meeting

Management Ability

Essential criteria
  • Ability to organise workload and arrange prioritie
  • Ability to motivate and develop the staff in the department
  • Ability to plan strategically and to exercise sound judgement when faced with conflicting pressures
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of Audit management

Personal Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively and supportively within a team
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in patient education and counselling
