To deliver planned Oncology treatment to patients with malignancies.  Being a member of the relevant well-established multi-disciplinary teams. Treatments will be delivered in close co-operation with the current visiting Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Consultants in Clinical Oncology.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

Working with a team of Clinical and Medical Oncologists from both the Cancer Centre (Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust) and our own East Lancashire team.  The post holder will providing support to our oncology team which includes a total of 28 clinics per week and two chemotherapy departments (20 sessions per week in total) across ELHT sites.

The post holder will be required to provide clinical support in most areas of cancer (all tumour groups except for rare and very complex cancers which are referred to our local Cancer Centre at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trusts).  

A flexible and adaptable approach is required to meet the needs of the service.  In return, we can offer you a supportive environment with development opportunities.  We are committed to supporting you through your clinical audit, research, and educational training needs.

The Cancer Services Department is based on the two main hospital sites of Royal Blackburn Hospital and Burnley General Hospital.

The department includes a number of disciplines across the staff groups of medical, technical, nursing, and administrative and work together to strive to deliver an effective and efficient Cancer and Oncology service.

Over a typical year the Oncologists deliver over 18,000 outpatient appointments, the Chemotherapy Units provide over 8000 treatment episodes, the Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) provide over 25,000 contacts, and the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) Coordinators support over 15,000 MDT Discussions.

The job plan covers Colorectal, and some Lung Clinics, providing oncology input in MDT meetings, as well as providing ward cover for Oncology patients.

Qualifications

  • Full GMC registration & Licence to Practice
  • MBBs or equivalent
  • Inclusion on the specialist register/ admission with 6 months CCT in medical oncology, MRCP or equivalent

  • Higher Degree such as MD, PhD, MSc

Medical Education

  • PG Certificate in Medical Education

Research and Decelopment

  • Knowledge of audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects

  • Evidence of publications in peer reviewed journals

Experience

  • Year 5/6 training or equivalent in oncology
