Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Fellow to join our Oral & Maxillofacial Team at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.  This is a fixed term role for 12 months.

The successful candidate will be placed within the Oral & Maxillofacial Directorate with clinical duties covering the inpatient wards and outpatient clinics with commitments to participate in the day, weekend, twilight and night  registrar on call rota.

The post-holders will be expected to support the continuing care of ENT in-patients and participate on the registrar on call rota with appropriate banding. 

The post-holder will be expected to participate in  audit meetings and will be welcome to participate in any available further training and study opportunities.

Main duties of the job

  • Attending ward rounds
  • Attending MDT meetings
  • Undertaking routine clinical procedures on wards
  • Seeing ward referrals and outliers
  • Opportunity to gain experience in specialty relevant and GIM procedures
  • Follow up management of acute inpatients
  • Prescribing
  • Discharge summaries
  • Contributing to quality improvement across the pathway
  • Working as equivalent to junior registrar level on call.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BDS or equivalent
  • Full or Temporary registration with GDC, or full registration with GMC
Desirable criteria
  • MFDS, MJDF, MRCS
  • MBChB or equivalent

Training

Essential criteria
  • Training to DCT2 level in OMFS or Oral Surgery
Desirable criteria
  • Speciality Training ST3+, SAS or equivalent in OMFS or Oral Surgery

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of evidence based practice
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and evidence of participation
  • Prior experience of teaching trainees
  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in independent trauma operating
  • Publications in refereed journals

Continuing Professional Develop

Essential criteria
  • Commitment to Continuing Medical/Dental Education

Management

Essential criteria
  • Ability to manage patients on a Head and Neck ward
