The Trust is part of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System (ICS) supporting a population of around 1.6 million people.

We have three main hospitals providing acute services to around 330,000 local residents. The organisation also provides specialist tertiary care for cardiac and haematology services, delivers community health services to over 445,000 residents including those in North Lancashire and hosts the National Artificial Eye Service across England. Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a Cancer Clinical Lead

This is a senior clinical leadership position, reporting to the Director of Clinical Effectiveness/Deputy Medical Director and working closely with the Lead Cancer Nurse and Cancer Services team.

 

 

Main duties of the job

The main functions of the role are to lead on the Cancer Strategy for the Trust, and to lead and direct cancer services across the organisation and primary care in the Fylde Coast.

The Lead Cancer Clinician (LCC) will ensure that cancer services are managed and organised effectively to support high quality care. The role is to provide clear leadership to all staff providing cancer care and to work with the Lead Cancer Nurse to deliver the increasing agenda set out in the National Cancer Strategy.

Working for our organisation

If applying from within the Trust, the expectation will be that 2 PAs of your time will be made available within your job plan to fully undertake the demands of the role. If applying from outside of the Trust, we would prefer the successful candidate to have a clinical role in the Trust in addition to this 2 PA position and are happy to discuss this.

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate qualifications in relevant topic

Experience & knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Outstanding reputation as a clinician and clinical leader, with a proven track record of producing high quality results.
  • Experience of cross profession collaborative working.
  • Evidence of continuing professional and managerial development.
  • In-depth understanding of the complexity in providing cancer services within secondary healthcare.
  • Knowledge of the UK health care sector.
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of a similar role or working at an equivalent level in a relevant healthcare organisation.
  • Experience in building organisational capabilities, including establishing a clear strategic vision and direction and translation into successful outcomes.
  • Experience of managing organisation wide agendas

  • Ability to provide successful team leadership/motivation of others, and success as a team player and the ability to work with staff at all levels.
  • A proven ability to plan strategically.
  • Political awareness, with the ability to understand the wider interest groups and stakeholders within the Trust, and to work sensitively to overcome their differing positions and interests.
  • Ability to work flexibly and to travel across hospital sites associated with Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on a regular basis, and regionally and nationally when required.
