An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, organised, and motivated Clerical Officer to join our busy Respiratory Department at Royal Bolton Hospital.
We are looking for an individual with excellent communication and organisational skills who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. As part of our administrative team, you will provide high-quality clerical support to our clinicians, nursing staff, and patients, helping to ensure the smooth running of outpatient clinics and respiratory services.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in delivering outstanding customer service and wants to contribute to improving the patient experience within the NHS.
Main duties of the job
What you'll be doing
- Managing appointments, referrals, and clinic schedules.
- Maintaining accurate patient records and updating electronic systems.
- Answering telephone and email enquiries efficiently.
- Supporting consultants, nurses, and the wider multidisciplinary team with administrative tasks.
- Ensuring patient information is handled confidentially and in line with NHS policies.

We are seeking someone who:
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Is well organised with strong attention to detail.
- Can prioritise workload and work effectively in a busy environment.
- Is confident using Microsoft Office and electronic patient record systems (or willing to learn).
- Enjoys working as part of a supportive team while also using their own initiative.
- Has previous administrative or customer service experience (NHS experience is desirable but not essential).

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- English and Maths GCSE level or equivalent
- NVQ Business administration / secretarial qualifications to level 3 or equivalent experience
- Previous administration / clerical experience in an office based setting
- Evidence of continued professional development
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Able to organise own workload
- An understanding of the service, relevant legislation
Desirable criteria
- Understanding of Integrated Community Service Division
Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous admin / clerical experience
- Experience of using a range of computer software packages and programmes including LE2
- Experience of using IT systems in place within the NHS
- Experience of working in a office environment and dealing with telephone enquiries
- Evidence of managing, organising and maintaining information systems
Desirable criteria
- NHS admin / clerical experience
- Understanding of civica scheduling system
- Knowlegde relating to BI and local data management
Skills
Essential criteria
- Maintain quality administration services
- To be able to work effectively as part of a team or and under own supervision using own initiate
- To demonstrate the ability to plan, develop, organise and prioritise your work to meet essential deadlines and changes in priority
- To demonstrate the ability to use IT systems and software
