Job overview

We are looking for an experienced dermatology consultant or a candidate who will be admitted to the Specialist Register within six months of commencement in post.
Both full and part time applicants will be considered.
Main duties of the job
Dermatology is a very busy specialty, providing care to around 550 adult and paediatric patients per week, working alongside experienced colleagues across multi-disciplinary teams with the goal to provide the best care for our patients. We are one of the best performing Dermatology service within Greater Manchester for cancer standards and this is achieved through great management, support from other services and dedication to providing excellent patient care to our community.
The service is located within the centre of the hospital site in a dedicated department. The department offers seven clinic rooms, two theatres and a phototherapy unit. We offer a range of clinics led by both consultants and specialist nurses including a biologics service that was implemented in 2025.
The appointee will work with two consultant dermatology colleagues, locum dermatologists, one GP with specialist interest, staff and specialist nurses, a cancer nurse specialist, experienced health care assistants and scrub nurses, a team of medical secretaries and operational managers. The department work in conjunction with plastic surgeons and medical photographers.
The post would suit either an experienced consultant looking for a new challenge or a newly qualified consultant.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Deliver clinic and minor operations activity as required by the service
- To collaborate with incumbent colleagues in developing innovative working practices for the delivery of patient centred services.
- The professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
- Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required, and for contributing to post-graduate and continuing medical education activity, locally, regionally and nationally.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Entry on the GMC specialist register in Dermatology or be eligible for entry (within six months of attaining Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training) at the time of interview
- MRCP or equivalent
- Full GMC registration
Desirable criteria
- MD or PhD
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Broad knowledge and experience of medical and surgical dermatology including management of acute dermatoses
Desirable criteria
- A particular interest and expertise in skin cancer diagnosis and treatment
Experience
Essential criteria
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST in Dermatology
- Ability to offer an expert opinion and independent patient responsibility on the full range of dermatological problems
- Ability to safely oversee and share care of patients with chronic skin problems with nursing and other staff
Desirable criteria
- Supervised training in an appropriate SpR training programme or equivalent
Skills
Essential criteria
- Acceptance of management and administrative duties by working within a structured hospital team
- Good personal interactive communication skills: clarity of expression and purpose
- Commitment to continuing medical education and the requirements of clinical governance
- Ability to assist in the efficient and smooth running of the Dermatology service with team working
- Ability to manage and lead strategic developments in service delivery
