We are looking to recruit a Dietitian to support our acute team during a period of maternity leave caring for inpatients, based at Royal Bolton Hospital  The caseload will include managing a caseload of inpatients some requiring parental nutrition and an outpatient clinic for gastroenterology patients at Lever Chambers Centre for Health.

 

You will report to the Acute Teams, Team Leaders, the successful post holder will be part of the wider Bolton Foundation Trust Dietetic Department.  The department is composed of two teams, acute and community with a total of 19 W.T.E staff. We provide an integrated service across both our Hospital and Community sites meeting the needs of our patients across the whole of the Bolton population.  

 

 As a department we encourage quality improvement and audit work. 

 

We are experienced trainers for student dietitians currently providing P1, P2 and P3 placements with the University of Chester, MMU and UCLAN.  

 

The service operates a flexi-time working arrangement and recognises the importance of balancing the needs of work with family commitments. The post is a 22.5 hours/week post.  

This post is subject to Disclosure by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).  

 

Main duties of the job

To work as an autonomous practitioner within the Community Nutritional Support Team, supported by highly specialist therapists.

To perform therapeutic assessment of patients within the clinical setting with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver individualised treatment programmes.

To manage a defined caseload, using evidence based, client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.

 To provide clinical education, advice and support for junior therapy staff and support staff.

To provide highly specialist knowledge, skills and advice to clients, and be a source of expertise for therapy staff, other members of the MDT and other agencies.  

To supervise, educate and assess the performance of therapy students.

To contribute to service research and audit activities.

To propose any service changes within own professional speciality area.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Nutrition & Dietetics or other relevant degree with PG Diploma in Nutrition & Dietetics.
  • Registered with Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Member of British Dietetic Association
Desirable criteria
  • Member of North West & North Wales branch of the BDA

Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least one year practising as a dietitian
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of enteral and parenteral nutrition
  • Experience of gastroenterology including FOBMAP diets

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with individuals and groups.
  • Ability to give formal and informal presentations, and to plan deliver and evaluate teaching sessions
  • Uses patient-centred approach when working with clients, and making appropriate use of motivational interviewing and dietary counselling skills.
  • Able to work effectively and develop good interpersonal relationships with a range of people, and commitment to multidisciplinary team working.
  • Basic IT skills: email, internet, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Good time management and organisation skills, able to work to deadlines.
  • Able to travel around Bolton. The post requires you to have access to a suitable vehicle to be used within your role subject to the provision of the DDA.
Desirable criteria
  • AbFull driving licensele to facilitate group discussion.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence based knowledge of clinical dietetics for enteral and parenteral nutrition as well as IBS/IBD treatments
  • Knowledge and understanding of Clinical Governance issues, professional code of conduct and confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of NHS priorities, targets, NSF’s and NICE guidance
  • Ability to conduct literature searches and critically evaluate clinical evidence.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge around complex gastroenterology patients
