Job overview

A fantastic opportunity has arisen within the Dermatology department for a band 3 Health Care Support Worker to join our busy and friendly team.

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated members  of staff to be part of our team working within the Integrated Skin Service. 

Main duties of the job

  • Working with the nursing, administration and medical staff to deliver excellent, patient focused care.
  • Assist consultants in the effective management of clinics and delivering verbal and written information to patients and their carers.
  • Assist in minor ops theatre, phototherapy and dressings clinics as required.
  • Maintain an effective communication network; this will include verbal, written and electronic forms of communication.
  • Assist in the collection of pathological specimens.
  • Maintaining appropriate stock levels and reporting any issues in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Help maintain patients emotional and physical well-being, respecting their dignity at all times.

Qualifications

Desirable criteria
  • NVQ level 2 or higher in Health Care or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working within a team/team environment.
  • Experience of working in health care setting.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in outpatient and/or dermatology setting.
  • Experience of working in NHS.
  • Experience of working with Lorenzo/LE2.2

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Basic understanding of local NHS and healthcare services.
  • Understanding of current issues in the NHS.
Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of issues in dermatology.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Compassionate and respectful, with a caring and non-judgemental approach.
  • Evidence of numerical and verbal reasoning.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self motivated.
  • Able to deal with unpleasant dermatological conditions.
  • Computer literate.

  • Able to deal sensitively with patients who have been given bad news.
