Rheumatology Consultant

NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Consultant Rheumatologist to join our well-established and forward thinking Rheumatology team at Bolton NHS FT, following the retirement of a long-serving colleague.

This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a supportive multidisciplinary team committed to delivering high-quality care, patient- centred care across a diverse population. The successful candidate will play a key role in the continued development of rheumatology services and will contribute to innovative models of care, education and service improvement.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the multidisciplinary Rheumatology outpatient service based at Bolton One Health Centre, delivering four outpatient clinics per week comprising a mix of new and follow-up patients.

In addition to managing your own clinical workload and associated administrative duties, you will be expected to provide formal clinical supervision to junior doctors and members of the wider multidisciplinary team.

The role includes providing specialist rheumatology advice to medical colleagues across a range of care settings, including inpatient services, General Practice, Accident & Emergency, intermediate care, and long-term disease management.

There will be the opportunity to develop a special interest that complements the existing expertise within the department, which can be agreed in line with service requirements and your professional interests.

This post does not include any out-of-hours or on-call commitment.

Working for our organisation

Bolton is a vibrant and forward-thinking town, conveniently located just off the M61, approximately 20 minutes from Manchester city centre, with excellent transport links across the North West and to areas of outstanding natural beauty, including the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust is a progressive and innovative organisation, proud of the resilience and dedication demonstrated by its staff. We foster a strong, supportive culture with a genuine “family feel” across the Trust.

This is reflected in our most recent National Staff Survey results, where colleagues identified Bolton NHS Foundation Trust as one of the best places to work in Greater Manchester—an achievement we are extremely proud of.

The Royal Bolton Hospital serves a diverse population of approximately 300,000 people. The Trust is currently rated ‘Good’ overall by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), reflecting our commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.

The vision of this Trust is to be recognised by the people of Bolton and beyond as an excellent provider of health and care services and a great place to work.  We are striving to attract, recruit and retain high calibre skilled staff which reflect our communities. We are an inclusive employer who trains and develops our staff in a positive learning environment.   We aim to be consciously inclusive and therefore applications from all sectors of the community are welcomed.
