An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to become part of the General Surgery Advanced Clinical Practitioner team which cares for patients who are acutely unwell, often presenting with undiagnosed, undifferentiated conditions or ongoing worsening symptoms of chronic disease.  

We have recently moved to our Surgical Triage Unit and work closely with the surgical assessment unit, we are dedicated to delivering same day care, investigations and initiation of treatment without admission to hospital.

The post holder will form part of the emergency surgical team in providing clinical assessment and support in the care and treatment of a diverse caseload of patients requiring surgical input. Demonstrating highly developed specialist knowledge and skills, the post holder will be integral in the early assessment and management of general surgical and urology patients.

 

 

Main duties of the job

Demonstrating highly developed specialist knowledge and skills, the post holder will be integral in the early assessment and management of general surgical and urology patients.

The Advanced Practitioner will work autonomously; demonstrate a highly specialist knowledge and skills in the diagnosis and management of patients within General Surgery. They will order investigations, make appropriate/ timely referrals and maintain relevant clinical records. Non-medical prescribing is fundamental in supporting this role. The post holder will provide clinical expertise for developing and enhancing the service.

The team is supportive to newly qualified or less experienced ANP/ACP and offer on the job training and a supervisory period to enhance skills and knowledge.

Essential criteria
  • MSC in Advance Practice
  • Registered health care professional
  • Teaching/assessing qualification
  • ALS/AIM/ALERT
  • Independent non-medical prescribing qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership and Management qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Worked within acute care environment as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner
  • Evidence of senior clinical decision making
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of working within surgical assessment units

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Advanced clinical skills in patient assessment diagnostics with treatment plans
  • IT skills
  • Evidence of analytical and judgemental skills
  • Evidence of recent research/audit
Desirable criteria

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Expert knowledge of acute surgical conditions and common presenting complaints to Surgical departments
  • Understanding of health economy targets for the delivery of urgent care.
