NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

Urology Consultant - Permanent post

The Urology Department at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a Consultant Urologist to join our fantastic team based at the Royal Bolton Hospital. This is a permanent position to complement our already well-established team of Urology Consultants.

We are a forward thinking department, which strives to provide a service that is continually improving for our patients and staff alike. You will be working alongside experienced Consultant colleagues, who work very closely as a team in the truest sense of the word.  Our Urology Theatre, Day Surgery Ward provision, and Diagnostic Suite are located together, in the Bolton Centre of Urology (which was designed with the needs of the Urology patient in mind); and this has created a very flexible working environment for the entire Urology team to facilitate the smooth running of both elective and emergency work.

The successful candidate will be expected to support the team in the provision of core urology services and will be supported in developing a specialist interest of their choice.

We operate a Consultant of the week model with each Consultant undertaking 1 hot week with out of hours cover and 1 cold week only covering the closed site inpatient emergency work during normal working hours. With this arrangement, the successful candidate will be participating in a 1:14  hot week on call rota.

Interview date 14th May 2026

Main duties of the job

  ·         Actively participate in the planning, development and delivery of the Urological service for the department

·         Take an active role in the teaching, training and assessment of junior staff including Specialist Registrars, Senior House Officers and Foundation Programme Trainees

·         Develop close links with local General Practitioners.

 ·         Develop specialist elements of the service in order to meet priorities within available resources.

 ·         Undertake administrative duties involved with the care of his/her patients

Working for our organisation

We are one of the North West’s busiest acute NHS Foundation Trusts, serving a diverse population across Bolton and parts of Greater Manchester and are classed as amongst the best in the region for several of our services.

Our aim is to be a great place to work, and we believe that by living our values every day we have built a culture where we treat patients as we would treat our family and friends.

We employ around 6,300 dedicated staff across more than 100 different services and specialties, based at Royal Bolton Hospital, at around 20 community healthcare sites, in schools and in people’s homes.

We would love to hear from you and would encourage you to contact our team to find out more about what the Urology service, and Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, can offer you.
