We employ over 9,500 staff, many of whom are internationally renowned and have won awards for their work.

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health Care Assistant to join the East Lancashire District Nursing Service. This patient‑facing role involves working autonomously, with the support of the wider team, to deliver high‑quality planned care. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong problem‑solving skills, adaptability and resilience. Full training and development will be provided, including a dedicated mentor and a structured competency framework to ensure confidence and capability in the role.

The post requires the ability to work contracted hours on a rotational basis across day and night shifts, in line with the needs of a 7‑day service that includes weekends and Bank Holidays. Base location, hours and working pattern will be discussed at interview. We actively promote flexible working to support work–life balance.

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential for this role.

Main duties of the job

The Health Care Assistant will work as a key member of the District Nursing Service, supporting registered nurses in delivering high‑quality care to patients across a range of community settings.

The post holder will undertake delegated clinical tasks, including phlebotomy, and will be expected to carry out all interventions competently and to a high standard within their scope of practice. They will contribute to both planned and unscheduled care, supporting the delivery and evaluation of care and interventions as directed by a registered practitioner. The role also requires the individual to take responsibility for maintaining and developing their own clinical competence, ensuring safe and effective practice at all times.
