Job overview

We are seeking a Senior Clinical Fellow. This post would be a participant on a 1 in 11 middle grade rota in a MTC , and would provide an excellent opportunity for a suitable person wishing to increase their experience in the management of Orthopaedic Trauma in a Major Trauma Centre and complex sub speciality care. 

The post holder will be required to work across Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley District General Hospital. The post is 12 months with a possible 6 months’ extension. 

This post is not formally approved for training and would also provide a study leave budget for attendance at national trauma courses and conferences. Ample opportunity will be available to the candidates to enhance portfolio with logbook, CBD, DOPS, Teaching, Audit and Research etc. The Directorate have a very successful record of previous candidates being successful in CESR application.

Main duties of the job

This post will be a full time post participating on the middle grade Orthopaedic 1 in 11 trauma rota. This post will be to work with a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic elective and trauma surgery.

The job plan will include a mixture of fixed trauma operating sessions, fixed outpatient sessions, trauma on-call commitments and trauma weeks and elective operating sessions. Consultants undertaking the Trauma commitments of Trauma theatre and on call, and senior ward review.

There are 18 Trauma Consultants. During the Trauma week, planned activities are replaced by the Trauma week activities.

This post will provide both elective and trauma experience in a major trauma centre and would be suitable for a person wishing to obtain Fellowship level experience This post would be suitable for a pre or post CCT candidate or those aspiring for CESR

  • Meets professional health requirements in line with GMC Standards/ Good Medical Practice

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration and License to Practice
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Permission to work in the UK
Desirable criteria
  • FRCS Trauma & Ortho

Experience and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Wide range of experience in orthopaedics
  • At least four years middle grade Orthopaedic experience.
  • Valid ATLS certificate.
  • Evidence of suitable logbook experience in Upper and Lower Limb Trauma.

Research and Audit

Essential criteria
  • Ability to demonstrate an appreciation and understanding of research methodology.
  • Evidence of involvement in research and/or publications.
  • Basic skills in clinical audit.
  • Appreciation of benefits of clinical audit in improving clinical practice and the development of clinical guidelines.
  • Experience and interest in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
Desirable criteria
  • One peer reviewed Trauma publication.
  • National or International Trauma presentations
