Orchard Garden Project Volunteer

Our Vision is to provide the best mental health, learning disability, autism and community based services for the populations we serve.

As an integrated Mental Health, Learning Disability and Community Trust, Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of services including:

  • Primary and secondary mental health care for children and adults including specialist inpatient child and adolescent mental health provision, perinatal mental health, forensic services including low and medium secure care.
  • Specialist community support for children and adults with learning disabilities and autism, including intensive support.
  • Community physical health and well-being services for children and adults.

The Trust was first established in 2002 and employs approximately 7,000 staff who provide care from more than 400 sites. The organisation offers opportunities for medics, mental health and general nurses, allied health professionals, Psychology, administration and clerical staff, apprentices and volunteers.

Lancashire & South Cumbria Foundation Trust recognise and value the importance volunteer support is to us and our patients. We currently have a volunteer role available supporting us at The Orchard in Lancaster.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

The Orchard Unit Occupational Therapy Team would like people to get involved in their Garden project at the Orchard Unit in Lancaster. This will aid service user recovery, community engagement, environment and positive transformation. The project will bring people together promoting an active and engaging lifestyle as well as benefiting local wildlife, the environment and the local community. Preventing illness and supporting individuals in maintaining active and healthy lifestyles. Together we are dedicated in providing a sustainable project with the purpose to grow and harness the mood-boosting power of gardening. The project will provide all necessary support and equipment.

Gweithio i'n sefydliad

The post-holder will assist in the creation and maintenance of a new garden environment in response to plans developed by service users, staff and volunteers under supervision of the occupational therapy team where necessary.

Typical tasks involve:

  • Offer knowledge around growing produce and assist service users in developing their knowledge and skills.
  • Attend relevant meetings as appropriate.
  • Watering plants.
  • Hand weeding inside and outside areas.
  • Sowing seeds and potting on.
  • Planting vegetables inside and outside raised beds.
  • Helping to raise bedding plants.
  • Other gardening maintenance task as required.

For this role applicants must be over the age of 18
