Job overview

A Registration Authority is a function that carries out the identity checks of prospective users of NHS Spine enabled services and assigns an appropriate access profile to the health professional's role as approved by the employing organisation. An authentication device is required to access NHS Spine information systems and Registration Authorities roles and responsibilities are defined by NHS policy.

A Registration Authority Agent is a person who has responsibility for creating users’ digital identities, issuing Authentication devices and tokens and assigning access profiles.

It is the Registration Authority Agents responsibility to check the identity of the user and that the National Registration processes are adhered to in full as identified in Registration Policy and Practices for Level 3 Authentications, grant users access assignment and to ensure leavers from an organisation have their access rights removed in a timely way. The Registration Authority Agent is responsible for checking that all RA requests are completed correctly.

Main duties of the job

A Registration Authority Agent must adhere to local processes that meet policy and guidance for the creation of digital identities, production of smartcards, issuance of Authentication devices, assignment of access rights, modifications to access and people, certificate renewal and smartcard unlocking.

A Registration Authority Agent has a responsibility to manage daily requests for new user profiles through the Apply for Care ID (AfCID) system and support NHSE colleagues with any queries.

Provide RA training to RA Sponsors.

You will be the first point of contact for queries from Primary Care colleagues within a variety of settings including Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists and other professionals.   

Good communication skills along with the ability to plan and prioritise your workload is essential.  

Keep computerised RA records up to date, ensuring all RA forms and any other materials are retained in accordance with national and local RA guidance/RA Policy/Data Retention Policies.

  • Educated to NVQ Level 3 level equivalent level of qualification or significant equivalent previous proven experience.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word and Excel
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Access
